Wake up! The doorbell rang!" As I elbowed Travis in the chest to no avail, he began sleep talking. Well shoot, I thought to myself. There ain't no way I'm getting up to answer it! It's 1:30 in the morning. #perksofbeingmarried

So I lay there quietly, until a few minutes later, ding-dong! Travis finally heard it and got out of bed. He took the longest amount of time to throw some pants on and finally made it to the front door. What do you know, whoever it was had been gone by then. Seriously, how long does it take to throw sweats on?! He noticed it was someone on a motorcycle that took off right when he got to the door. So he waited to see if they came back down the hill. Our neighborhood only has one way in, one way out, and we are at the beginning of it. Well, it never came back down. To add to Trav's confusion, it was his birthday the night before, so he'd had a few birthday drinks. So, after waiting and no one coming back down, he came back to bed.

Of course we just lay there because I couldn't fall back asleep. Who could it be? This is weird. About 5 minutes later, ding-dong. Wow! Travis was still awake. And he had clothes on! So he makes it to the door. I lay there waiting for a gun shot or loud scream. #bestwifeever I hear another man's voice and Travis goes to the mudroom to put shoes on and goes outside. Uhhhh. I hop out of bed, go potty, throw my robe on, and quietly leave the bedroom. I then tiptoe around to the front door and peek out the window. I see lights from a car but can't see what car. So, I walk around to the guest room to creepily peek out of that window.

Two cop cars?! What is going on? In our nice, quiet, new neighborhood? At our house?

Then I hear Travis opening the garage. So I creep back to the mudroom and try to hear through the door. And no, I couldn't just go outside and find out what's going on. Where's the fun in that!? So I hear talking but I have no idea what they are saying. So I go back to the guest room and see one of the police-persons taking a photo of Trav's truck. Hmm. Are we in trouble? No comprende.

After what seems like a long time, Travis finally comes back in. "Someone broke into my truck!" Well, technically they just opened it because someone likes to leave doors unlocked. Apparently the mysterious motorcycle man was our neighbor who was on his way home from work and noticed the truck doors wide open. After we didn't answer the door, he went home and found his vehicle broken into as well and called the cops. All they took from the truck was a $2.00 bill and a new unopened package of speakers worth about $100 but thankfully nothing was broken, they didn't try to enter the house (the side garage door was open! *shudder*) and the speakers are easily replaceable. Turns out this is the second time this has happened to the neighbors.

Things like this make me wonder: Is the person that did this desperate for money, bored, or just likes to hurt/scare other people? Why are there people who take away from others for their own personal gain? I will just never understand.

Basically the point of this story was to remember that our neighbor's sombrero got stolen and to tell you guys *cough:Travis:cough* to lock your stuff up. People suck. Oh, and Travis sells fancy camera thingies and yes, he is going to be installing one.Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10181852731114109521noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5997605947137089868.post-67378506672298024732013-03-25T09:44:00.000-06:002013-03-25T09:44:40.484-06:00thirty-one **warning: mushball ahead**

Nope, this isn't a sale pitch for those cute organizing totes or a confession of how many cookies I ate this weekend. This is a birthday wish to my favorite <strike>dork</strike> person, the love of my life, my best friend and my forever adventure pal.

Wow. If that doesn't make you weak in the knees, I don't know what will.

Trav is <strike>many</strike> a few years older than me (only 5, people) and I like to give him a hard time about it too often. Mostly because he complains about getting older, to which I tell him...

Age is just a number and I believe everyone should be thankful for each birthday they get to celebrate. That means they had one more year to live, to have adventures, to love. I am so thankful that Travis came into my life. Sure, he isn't perfect (who is), but he sure is perfect for me. He's the best dog dad any fur-ball could ask for, and someday, he will melt my heart even more when we have kids of our own. I could go on and on about the things I love about him (and the things that drive me nuts), but I really just want to say Happy Birthday to the man that completes me and makes my life more than I could have ever hoped for. I love you, sexy pants.

Just a few things we've been up to:
**Trav was the Outstanding Salesman in the region for the 2nd year in a row. Pretty proud!
**I've been yoga-ing and falling in love with inversions.
**Fact: Beer tastes better in an ice cold boot.
**Another fact: Valentine's Day requires red high heels.
**Dogs are fun. My wish finally came true and we saved a dog. His story will be coming soon!
I am still here! I am in the works of revamping my blog to follow more of my passions which means I will writing more about DIY, fitness, recipes and adventures! Thanks for sticking around and you bet your bottom I am still reading all of your blogs. My mornings just wouldn't be the same without them! Happy adventuring this weekend! However, I looove learning random things about complete strangers, so why not share some <strike>silly</strike> awesome things about me! Especially since Whitney gave us all the best excuse ever to be a little random today. I'd be crazy to not join in on the fun.
I asked Travis to tell me some silly facts about me so some of those are thrown in. I can't tell you which ones though. I've gotta keep some things private, ya know. Says the girl that has a blog.

* I'm always late. Take for example this blog post. Or work. Or the dentist. No matter how early I leave, the on time peeps are against me.

* I curse like a sailor, but at the weirdest times. That view? It's f*&@in' pretty.

* I'm a drooler. When Trav and I were first dating, I fell asleep on his shoulder while watching a movie. Let's just say I woke up wet. And it was my cheek. Trav's shirt didn't make it out dry either.

* I'm messy with food. When I cook or eat, no matter how careful I am (which isn't often), I always end up with food in my hair or weird crumbs on my face. I eat like a child and play with my food when I'm full, and then I forget my hands were all up in my mashed potatoes and scratch my nose.

* I can be a perv and have a dirty mind. You'd never know this about me unless we've been tight for awhile. I keep my sarcastic sense of humor to myself until I know you're a lifer.

* Peanut butter makes my world go round. I could eat it on everything if it didn't gross my husband out.

* I'm the worst decision maker ever. Then I make a decision and second guess it and go back to my first idea and then hate it and then yell at my husband for not just making the decision for me. Wendy's or Taco Bell?! Such hard life choices.

* Fuzzy critters get me every time. When I see an animal, I make weird goochie goo noises that show how much I love them. My husband doesn't get it. Oh, and I make up voices for my dog. He sounds pretty wise, I must say.

Another weekend come and go. Actually, two of them. I had so much fun these past two weekends that I have to share both of them. They both, of course, involved numerous drinks and fun shenanigans.

The first weekend consisted of seeing Travis play with The Brown Eyed Cats. Pat, the lead singer/band manager, is one of our good friends and they like to play for fun. They play a lot of 60's inspired music, so the requirement was that any girl that wanted to come had to dress up as a go-go girl. Any excuse to get dressed up works for me! Their first gig of the year was at Pocatello's only local brewpub, Portneuf Valley Brewery. They have great food, wonderful beer & wine and always have fun live music. They also display local artists' work for display and sale.

I had fun making my hair big, wearing fake eyelashes and rocking a mini skirt. The best part?! I had my entire outfit on hand! I thought it was pretty cute that the grown men wanted their band outfit to match. I'm diggin' the v-necks, not gonna lie.
Of course I didn't get pictures of my husband and I. That would just be weird. Obviously the rest of the weekend was spent recovering. Too. Much. Fun. And So. Much. Dancing.

This weekend was a little different. Myself and five girlfriends made the trek to Island Park, Idaho for a weekend full of relaxation and adventure at one of the girl's cabin. It was very much needed. Drinking, eating, relaxing, snowshoeing and sledding all wrapped in one weekend.
Holy pictures, batman. It really was such a fun weekend. The cabin was so cozy I could stay there all winter! Idaho sure is beautiful. Oh, and if you ever find your way to Island Park which is very close to West Yellowstone, this cabin can be rented. Contact me if you're interested and I'll let you know how to find it!
Dear Jamaica, remember when Trav and I had only been dating a few months and we booked an all-inclusive trip to you? Best spontaneous decision ever. In March it will be 3 years ago. Next dream on the list: Barbados. Dear Brown Eyed Cats, I'm expecting an amazing show tomorrow night. I know you'll make it worth dressing up in go-go girl gear! I can't promise I won't be oogling the bass player all night, though. Dear multiple inches of snow, yay for you! You make winters in Idaho totally worth it. I can't wait to make more snow memories this year. Dear death hill behind our house, I will conquer you. Maybe. After much consumption of wine. Dear falafel, I love you. Dear Tone It Up girls and Blogilates, I love you more. So do my bum cheeks and abs and legs and mind. Thanks for the motivation. Dear husband, I happen to love sharing a workout room with you, especially when I can show you up sometimes ;). Dear blog, I'm working on making you pretty, all by myself. Little changes here and there are where it's at. Mostly because I have no idea what I'm doing. Dear Google, you are my hero. Said everyone that ever lived. Dear peeps, thanks for stopping by and commenting and all that lovey stuff. It's fun for me. I love reading blogs but I'm a terrible commenter. If you read mine, just know I read every single blog post of yours. Must. Read. All. The. Blogs. Have a great weekend! Can't wait to hear about all the adventures you're having!
Pinned It. Did It: {Cookies}Pomegranate white chocolate chip cookies, to be exact. I made these amazing cookies for an ugly sweater party back in December and holy moly they were delicious. I love pomegranates and this year I bought my own and got the seeds all by myself. I highly recommend doing this especially when they are in season (right now). Cheap and fun (story of my life).

Here's the pretty pinspiration from one of my favorite food bloggers that I follow:
Mmm I want to make these again and not share this time...seriously try these! 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup old fashioned oats
1 cup white chocolate chunks (I used chips)
1 cup pomegranate arils

directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and set aside.

2. In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream butter and sugars together until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until well combined.

3. In a separate bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add flour mixture to the wet ingredients. Mix until just incorporated.

4. Stir in the oats and white chocolate chips. Make dough balls-about 1 tablespoon of dough per cookie. Tuck about 6-8 pomegranate arils in each cookie dough ball. Bake cookies for 10-12 minutes, until the cookies are golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool on baking sheet for two minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling.

*Tip: You can stir in the arils but it will make your cookies a little pink! That could be fun for Valentine's Day!*

...because I can. This is my blog and I'm allowed to post snapshots of my Christmas even though people have moved on. So if you are sick of shiny lights and cozy trees then you better just move along. Don't worry, though, I just have pretty pictures to share and not many words! We didn't decorate a whole lot considering we don't have many decorations yet, but we loved everything we did have. Our first Christmas in our home was the best I can remember. I can't wait to add more next year (after I go clearance shopping this year).
Aaaand that's pretty much it. Don't worry, we aren't Grinches, I just took the photos before all of our Christmas gifts were wrapped. Mostly because gifts weren't wrapped until the last possible minute. Oh, but I love how my house looks again without Christmas! Woo!

So you're probably sick of hearing this, but Happy to the New Year! I love the excitement of a New Year. I'm not so much a fan of New Year's Resolutions, but I do love to take a step back and think about all of the things I'd like to accomplish and all the new memories that are going to be made.

One of the most exciting things is starting the year in our new home. This will be our first full year here and I'm so excited. We already started it off right with a New Year's party which included ping pong and watching drunk boys sled down our hill. No, there wasn't enough snow, but it was hilarious. And scary. Trav's bum is still bruised!

It's only January which means I still have some time to tackle my 26 in 26 list. Thank goodness because I'm not quite ready to think about turning twenty (gasp) seven in August. Yikes. I can't accomplish #4 without the approval of my husband though, so Trav, if you're reading, please please please oh pretty please!?

I do have some other goals that aren't on that list, which I am going to put here to maybe keep me accountable just a little bit.

*The quote above is my priority. I need to be thankful for all the good in my life and stop wishing for more. My life is so full and I need to remember that.

*Blog more. This is a biggie. I started this so I could remember all of the awesome adventures we have and I've failed to blog so many of them. Don't be surprised if you read about things that happened 8 months ago. You might hear about Christmas around Valentine's Day. Or tomorrow. I'm more worried about keeping up with everyone else's blogs that mine gets pushed to the back burner.

*Go back to school. I want to. I need to. I think I know what I want to be when I grow up. Now, I just have to make that leap.

*Drink more wine. Done and done. I had to give myself a freebie. This red I'm drinking right now is pretty dang delicious.

*Read more books. At least one per month would be ideal. I haven't turned on my Nook in I don't know how long. I find myself always trying to catch up on blogs but I need to turn the phone off and get lost in a good book. I have a long list of books I want to read. Maybe I'll even join in on a blogger's book club. Any recommendations of books or clubs??

*Take more pictures. I always feel like I'm annoying someone if I have the camera out, but I need to quit worrying about it! Pictures equal memories equal happiness and I need to use my fancy new lenses I got for Christmas!

That's basically it. My goals for right now. Doable and exciting, me thinks. We have quite a list for our home goals, too, but that is another post for another day.
We get to celebrate Christmas! And New Year's! And anything else! Clearly I'm glad the end of the World did not happen, and no, we did not stock up on goodies and prepare a bomb shelter just in case. I'm more of a "if the World's ending, so be it, just take me" kinda person. So, in celebration of being able to celebrate, I wanted to share some of our Christmas traditions we will be starting this year. Growing up, we didn't do anything super crazy besides spending time with all 4 sets of my Grandparents. Now that I'm old and married, Travis and I want to start some of our own traditions.

We cut down our own tree this year and I hope we continue to do this. It was so fun to spend some time in the mountains and find our wonky tree.

The first year Travis and I were dating, his family started the "Prather Amazing Race". His parents set up silly games for the 4 kids and their spouses and had prizes at the end. Think "Minute to Win It" type games. Puzzles, scavenger hunts, eating 'dog treats', getting ping pong balls into cups, and so on. It's been such a hit that this year will be the 4th year and it just gets better every year. All I have to say is Trav's siblings better get their game faces on because we mean biznass. This is one tradition I hope stays forever and I can't wait to carry it on with our kids someday.

This is our first Christmas in our new home and we will be spending Christmas Day there, just the two of us and Riley. We received some homemade Kahlua (hello yummy) from a friend so we plan on making White Russians. I'm hoping this can be a tradition we carry on. I also plan on washing down these cinnamon rolls with the creamy deliciousness. If all goes well and my kitchen makes it out alive, cinnamon rolls will be an annual thing, too. It's my first time making homemade ones. Pray for me.

Silly Christmas/and or Disney movies are also on the agenda. Did you see all the movies Netflix added?! Fox and the Hound, here we come. Oh, and I can't forget opening our presents from each other.

I would really like to start the 12 days of Christmas next year and have a fun advent calendar when we have kiddos.

These are just a few things we plan on starting this year and I can't wait to keep adding more to the list as time goes on and our little family grows. No matter what your traditions are, I hope you have a wonderful holiday filled with family, friends and all the little things that make Christmas special. I know that's the most important thing to us is spending time with our family and making memories.

I can't believe 2012 is almost over. It's been a whirlwind, that's for sure. I'm ready to spend the weekend with family and spend Christmas Day for the first time in our new home with my love and Riley. We decorated a little bit for Christmas and I will share the rest of our decor tomorrow, but now it is time to share my most recent DIY project with you! I totally <strike>stole</strike> was inspired by Katie's ruffled tree skirt project and I knew I had to make one for myself. Not only was I inspired by Katie's project, but by this pretty one I saw on Pinterest:

I obviously had to keep with the burlap and red theme. I think one made out of all burlap would be really cute, too! So, you will need:

Fabric of choice. I used a little less than 2 yards of each.

Glue gun and glue sticks. I needed a whole bunch.

An old tree skirt for the base.

Scissors.

Patience and time.

Wine.

Purchase awesome old tree skirt from the thrift store and debate keeping it as is. Everyone loves Tigger!

Cut strips of fabric about 2 inches wide. No need to measure, I just eyeballed it.

I found it easier to make my ruffles first and then glue that strip to the old tree skirt. Start at the outer edge and where the slit in the middle is and glue your strip to the skirt.

Make your ruffles as big or as little as you want. You can make your placement of the different fabrics as wide or thin as you want. There's no right or wrong way!

This isn't meant to be perfect so just have fun with it! It only takes a few hours if you do it all at once and yes, you will burn your fingers. I'm very happy with how it turned out and Travis likes it just as much! Oh, and good luck from keeping your critters off it while you work. #hesluckyhescute
I'm sure you all know I'm talking about the Sandy Hook shootings. I honestly cannot even imagine what the families, responders and community are going through right now. For a person to so easily take the lives of innocent people, especially children, truly disgusts me and it makes me question my desire to bring children into this ugly World. I plan on writing more about this in a later post, but this one is meant to share that my thoughts are with those affected and it's just another reason why I choose to live like there won't be a tomorrow. Go hug someone you love right now. That's one thing you'll never regret.

My weekend was spent with a lot of my favorite people. On Friday, we attended the 3rd annual Ugly Sweater Party at our friends' home. I of course waited until the last minute to go sweater shopping, so I found a semi-ugly sweater and belted a dog toy to the front of it. Yes, it squeaks.
The fuzzy guy is Trav's brother [as if you couldn't tell] and his wife is the cute one next to him. They rock. None of us won 'Ugliest Sweater' but I think we looked pretty dang good. I ate way too many delicious things and drank way too many delicious drinks. After a late night, Saturday was spent eating a greasy breakfast, doing last minute Christmas shopping [almost done, woo!], and taking a two hour nap. I finally finished my 'Saw It, Pinned It, Did It' project that I'll be posting on Thursday. Here's a teaser:
Sunday was spent sleeping in [again] and taking Riley out with the in-laws and their dogs for an afternoon of shooting and hiking. Here's my handsome dog in his scarf. He's pretty much the cutest ever.
After we used up a few bullets [and I showed off my aim], we took the dogs on about a two mile walk. They were in heaven. It was nice because we are finally getting some snow here! Woo hoo! My wish for a white Christmas may actually come true!
Dear Christmas, you are less than 2 weeks away! Yikes! Shopping may kill me. Dear Montana [my] family, we'll be seeing you all in one week from tomorrow, which makes me panic even more! Why must I wait until the last minute to shop, why!? Dear self, you'll never learn. Dear iMac, we love you even though we know nothing about you. Isn't that what high school love is? Soon it'll be like we're married though, and we won't know what we did without you. <that a="a" little="little" only="only" was="was" weird="weird"></that> Dear Basement and Bar, thank you for being amazingly cozy and stocked with deliciousness. Dear Husband, I'm so proud of you and thankful for everything you do. I can't wait to give you your Christmas present. Hint: It's a gift that just keeps on giving! Dear Idaho weather, still no snow. Don't you dare decide to hold out and decide to blizzard next weekend when we have to travel. Pretty please! I'll take some white fluffies between now and then, though! Dear Riley, you have the shiniest teefers I ever did see. Sorry about that. p.s. Still no brother or sister for you. Santa?? Dear everyone, I hope you have a great weekend full of last minute shopping, baking, rest and adventure!

So, Santa came a little early this year and he was dressed as a FedEx guy. He dropped off a shiny white package adorned with the cutest little apple I ever did see.

Unfortunately, Santa is making us pay for this little present, but that's okay. That's what husbands are for! [wink wink]

I'm not really sure what I'm doing since I've never owned a Mac before, but so far, so good. Even though I've had Apple products, there is still definitely a learning curve. Husband is sad we didn't spring for the 27 inch except then we'd be blinded. Seriously, who needs a screen that big?! [Says the girl that wants a 60 inch TV]

If anyone has any tips or awesome resources, send them my way! I'd sure appreciate it. If you blog from a Mac, do you use Blogger or something else? I really liked Live Writer but alas, no more Windows for this girl.

I was planning on linking up with Katie and Steph tomorrow, but the project I picked is taking longer than anticipated. Holy glue sticks batman. Maybe next week! I'm still trying to get in the Christmas spirit, but the lack of snow makes it hard. However, our pretty lights and shopping for our family is helping just a bit!

Check back for some photos of our Christmas decor soon! Oh and because he's so cute, here's a photo from when we went Christmas tree chopping. Where's <strike>Waldo</strike> Riley?
Dear Idaho weather, SNOW already! I would like to sled down my hill and lace up my snowboarding boots and watch snowflakes fall and just have a white winter. Easy peasy, me thinks. I would love to see snow atop those trees out of those windows up there. Dear self, you best be getting some shopping done here soon. Christmas is seriously right around the corner! Dear Santa, I've been very nice this year. Pinky promise. Dear Husband, I can't wait to make the office pretty in time for our fancy new iMac to arrive! I can't believe we bit the bullet and bought that amazingness. Merry Christmas to us! Dear Dad, tomorrow would be your 47th birthday. I plan on celebrating just the way we would if you were still here. I miss you to pieces. Dear blog, three posts in one week? Whoa! It's almost a miracle. Dear Husband, I still can't believe you'd rather have a kid over a puppy or kitty. Even though it melts my heart a little, not yet. ;] Dear friends, I hope you have a wonderful weekend full of adventure, winter-y drinks and ugly sweaters.
I've been wanting to link up to Katie's and Steph's spectacular party since they started it and it was just the motivation I needed to stop pinning and start doing!

I've been seeing those yarn wrapped wreaths all over the interwebs and Pinterest for forever now. They look so easy but so cute and can easily be made for any reason/season. I like projects that I can do myself but take minimal supplies and not too much time. I'm a really picky pinner (is this in the dictionary as a verb yet?) and since there are so many variations out there, I pinned a simple one I liked and used it as inspiration to make one for our front door.

Pinned from here

So cute and simple, right?

So, first you'll have to gather supplies. I used:

*1 Styrofoam wreath, any size you want
*yarn, any color you want
*felt, a few different colors you want
*ribbon, twine or anything you have around for hanging
*glue gun
*scissors (make sure they're sharp)
*any other pretty things: twine, beads, etc. to jazz it up

See, cheap and easy (just the way I like it)(that's probably what he said), especially if you already have some of these things on hand!

....Drum-roll please....

Voila!

I didn't take pictures of the process because it really is so easy. I took my pretty red yarn, hot glued the end to the wreath and started wrapping. Round and round you go. I would hot glue about every 10 wrap-a-rounds just to hold it in place. If your yarn is nice and thick it will cover pretty well so you shouldn't have to go around more than once. This only took about a half an episode of 90210. There were a few sad spots, so I just randomly wrapped yarn around those spots, which also added a little bit of variation and texture. It won't be perfect but that's okay! Imperfection is better in this case.

Now, for those simple little flowers, all you have to do it cut some circles or strips out of felt. Make some bigger to add some excitement to that little wreath of yours. There are so many tutorials out there to make felt flowers, so I'm just going to direct you to the one I used. She spells out five different ways to make them, and seriously, once you read through them, you'll probably never have to refer back to it. It's that easy. Can you tell which ones I made?

After you make as many flowers as you want, start hot gluing them to the wreath in any arrangement that suits your fancy. I didn't make a specific plan or anything, I just started gluing one by one.It would be fun to add some pine tree sprigs or mistletoe to jazz it up a bit, too.

In my case, I used a pretty ribbon that came from my wine club vino to hang the wreath on the front door. I'm pretty smitten with how it turned out and I can't wait to make some more. These would make a great handmade gift, too! There are so many ways to personalize them. I can't wait to make one that can be hung anytime when there isn't a specific holiday coming up.

Now let's hope the crazy wind we have up on the hill won't blow this baby away....and next time maybe I won’t use such a baby sized wreath…
Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10181852731114109521noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5997605947137089868.post-9460918742613144032012-12-04T21:12:00.001-07:002012-12-04T21:12:39.394-07:00Obsessions
…so uhhhh, this was supposed to be posted the week after Thanksgiving. Hello, hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday spent with loved ones. Mine was full of family, yummy food, delicious drinks and fun games. Of course I didn’t take any pictures as I was too being spending quality time with everyone with no distractions. Oh, and it is hard to take pictures when you’re busy being a heavy metal rock star while reciting the ABCs backwards and performing yoga poses. All at the same time. My first obsession:

Quelf. Seriously the most fun game I’ve played in a long long time. The best part is it is playable by adults and kids. Our 5 and 8 year old nephews thought it was hilarious to see their dad pretend to be an interpretive dancer. It’s fun sober but it’s even more fun after a few beers, a few flavors of wine and ‘Friskies’ (Fresca and whiskey). #dontmixboozeyourheadwillhateyou

The Walking Dead. I may just have to punch my brother and sister-in-law for getting us to start watching this show. Can’t. Stop. Watching. I swear during every episode, my heart rate increases and I bite my nails and I yell at the t.v. and it’s just so intense. If you have Netflix, don’t start watching until you have nothing better to do. Trust me. We watched that over Christmas decorating. And exercising. And cleaning. And bathing. Okay, who am I kidding, go watch it. Don’t blame me when you have nightmares and start really believing the Zombie Apocalypse is coming.

These two, obviously. They are my most favorite-est. I’m so grateful to have such an amazing husband to share everyday with and our fuzzy dog that makes us smile everyday. I am also obsessed with the fact that both of them are okay being lazy for 3 days watching a show about zombies. p.s. this picture is an outtake from a few Christmas’ ago…and yes, Travis filled that stocking full for me. I bet you’ve never heard anyone say that before. I especially love weekends that I get to get away with my love and go see one of my favorite people. My college roomie, Sara, lives in Boise with her boy-toy, which is thankfully only 3 hours away. It is our tradition to see all of the Twilight movies together, so we used Breaking Dawn: Part 2 as an excuse to plan a trip over there. We even made sure Boise State had a home game on the schedule so we could go <strike>party with the tailgaters</strike> cheer on the Broncos on the sweet blue turf.

We were greeted late Friday night with delicious tapas and even more delicious wine. I’m not very good at taking pictures because I’m usually having too much fun, but we probably looked something like this…

…but 5 years older. And just imagine my face full with stuffed mushrooms and homemade fries. And red teeth. The <strike>party poopers</strike> boys went to bed early while we stayed up too late chatting. I love bestie time.
The next day, which came way too soon by the way, was football day. Boise State pretty much sent Colorado State crying all the way home. It was 35 to 0 at one point. Needless to say, we left the rain and wind after the 3rd quarter to go find a cold beer at at bar since the campus is dry. Don’t they know they’d make way more money if they just let the drinkers drink?!

After having some drinks with some Pumpkin Spice vodka, <strike>and making a drink in a water bottle to smuggle in the theatre</strike>, we headed out to have dinner. We had our first course at a sushi place that included two rolls and sake bombs. Then we made our way to a Vietnamese restaurant for some Pho. Sidenote: I had no idea it is pronounced ‘fuh’. You’re welcome for that little lesson. It was quite delicious, and if you live in a big city, I highly recommend hitting up more than one restaurant in one night.

Then it was time for this.

And it was amazing. So amazing, that after a certain part in the movie, my dearest Sara yelled ‘mother-&!@#$%’ because we were so stressed out. And I laughed. It really was a great movie and all I have to say is being turned into a vampire did wonders for Ms. K-Stew. Oh, and I need my future daughter to look like Renesmee. Holy adorableness.

After the movie, we met up with the boys at one of the coolest bars I’ve been to in awhile. It’s called the Space Bar and it is full of sweet, old coin-operated arcade games. So, bring some quarters, buy a cold beer and play Pac-Man. Or Donkey Kong. Or Mortal Kombat. Or pinball. And then pick some music on the jukebox. It was quite the crowd and the clientele you would expect to see, but it was nice to see such a unique place doing so well. If only I could come up with a sweet idea like that…
So, long story short, I love weekends and need to be bitten by a vampire, stat. Hope your weekends were just as awesome! What’s the most unique place you have been recently??
Dear Twilight, aaagghh! I'm so excited to see you this weekend. It's bittersweet, though, since it's the end. Definitely not as sad as the end of Harry, though. #imanerd Dear Boise State Broncos, you best be giving us a good show this weekend! I see trouble in our future. Tailgating, football games, after game celebrating (hopefully), dinner downtown Boise, mucho vino, and Twilight. Wowza. Dear Sara (bestie), I can't wait to visit you and cause all sorts of shenanigans. I <strike>kinda</strike> really love that you're so close in Boise. Dear Travis, thanks for wandering around the mall last night looking for last minute Boise garb. You're so patient and awesome. #ihateshopping Dear Thanksgiving, you're welcome for not leaving you in the dust already. Stop the Christmas music, people! Give Thanksgiving a chance! I can't wait to eat too much and play games with the family. Dear Blog, I'm excited to try my hand at giving you a makeover very, very soon. Please cooperate. Dear Readers, thanks for sticking around my usually lack of a blog. I know I say this a lot, but I promise I'll be more exciting soon. Oh, and check out the pretties on the right hand side. You won't be disappointed. Have a fantastic weekend! It better be full of adventure. I know mine will be!

I'm hoping to link up with Katie and Steph at some point, but that would actually mean I have to accomplish one of the things I pin. I'm not the only one who would rather keep pinning more stuff than actually doing any of it, am I???

Even the husband rolls his eyes when I show him the 'coolest thing ever' I've pinned. I say that phrase a lot. He's just lucky I haven't made him build me everything. Yet. I thought today I'd share a few of the awesome-sauce things I've pinned lately and link up with Michelle over at The Vintage Apple. Oh, and I'm always looking for awesome pinners to follow, so find me here so I can find you, too!
Tonight anyways. I’m not sure where it came from. Maybe it’s my mind telling me I need to watch ‘Ratatouille’…

…and that randomness leads me into the point of this post. Gratitude. Thankfulness. There’s so many things that I’m thankful for. Not just this time of year, but all year round. It is easy thinking about all those things right now, though, with the holidays in full swing. So, in no particular order…

I’m thankful for…

*My Family. Both sides are so different and so amazing, in their own ways. Life just wouldn’t be the same without all of them.
*Our Friends.
*my Riley darg. The feeling I get seeing how happy is when we come home is something I’ll never get tired of. Life just wouldn’t be as exciting without him and his hairy self.
*my husband. No explanation necessary.

*white wine and red wine and blue wi…oh wait. I just like wine.
*Seasonal beers
*Pumpkin everything
*A healthy body that can get me through every day, and even more challenging things like fun races
*my nephew. Who knew a 4 year old could bring such happiness. He makes me want one of my own. Someday.
*Our home. I’m so thankful for the roof over our head and all the amenities that come with it. So many aren’t as fortunate.
*’Parenthood’. Except when it makes me cry. Every week. But it makes me laugh more. If you haven’t watched it, get on it. Even Travis approves.
*My job. Even though I complain <strike>most</strike> some mornings, I really am glad I can help provide for our little family while being challenged every day. And read blogs once in awhile.
*Four Seasons. As glamorous as Idaho <strike>is</strike> isn’t, I love seeing snow falling abundantly in the Winter, the flowers blooming in the Spring, the sun beaming down in the Summer, and the leaves turning gorgeous colors in the Fall.
*Food. Delicious, clean, whole foods.

Obviously, this list definitely isn’t extensive, but I think it’s important to think about all the things we are so blessed to have. Not everyone is so lucky.

And because a post isn’t a post without a picture of an ass...

You’re welcome. What are you thankful for? Besides fuzzy noses, of course.
Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10181852731114109521noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5997605947137089868.post-78800256986160912682012-11-09T09:33:00.000-07:002012-11-09T09:33:47.510-07:00Friday's Letters

Dear the U.S. of A., thank you. I will probably never get political on this here blog, but I sure am thankful that we have the right to vote for what we want, even if it doesn't go the direction we hoped for. Dear Pocatello, yay for the animal shelter! I'm so happy you opened your wallets so the animal shelter can rebuild. Let's see what crazy, delicious concoctions we can come up with! Dear Idaho, thank you for having four seasons. This fall was my favorite, yet. Now, the white flakes are falling and I can't wait to spend the holidays in our cozy, new home. Dear everyone, make sure you check out the girls on my sidebar! They rock, and it's always fun to find new blogs! Dear Veteran's, thank you for serving our country! The three day weekend is just a small bonus we have due to all the sacrifices men and women made for us, and still do today. Dear wine tasting last night, I liked you. Too much. The end.

I hope all your weekends are full of adventure, warm cups of this goodness, and time spent with some of your favorite people!
Approximately.
This weekend was the end of a big part of my life. It may not be the end forever, but for now, it was the best choice for my little family and me. For those that don’t know, I was a member of the Montana Air National Guard. The ANG is a branch of the Air Force and I’m proud to say that I served our country, even if it was only one weekend a month. It was the last weekend I was allowed to put on the uniform and call myself an Airman.

Why did I decide to join the guard? Honestly, the main reason was to help pay for my college education. It did that and more. I was at a point in my life where I needed a challenge and motivation. I’m very proud of the commitment I made. I traveled 420 miles each way the first of weekend of every month for 6 years. While I know this is a small sacrifice compared to the many others who spend countless days away from their home and families, I’m still proud of doing what I signed up to do.

It started with 6 1/2 weeks of basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, followed by 6 weeks of technical school on the same base. The weeks flew by and even though they were challenging, I learned a lot about myself and gained a confidence that can never be taken away. In tech school, I was the class leader and also Distinguished Graduate. Please notice my baby cheeks and pre-brace smile. Let’s just say I wasn’t the toughest looking Airman, but I like to think looks are deceiving.

I never volunteered to be deployed anywhere as education was always my priority. Looking back, I’m a little disappointed, but every decision is made for a reason so I have no regrets. One good thing about the drive every month was not just the co-pilot I got to travel with, but seeing my family so often. I know that I won’t see them as much anymore and it breaks my heart just a little, especially since my nephew is is growing up so fast. We will make an effort to go as often as we can, though. Speaking of my co-pilot, this was my rear view. Let’s just say Riley is a professional car rider. Even though he can’t talk back to me, he’s the best company ever.

Another experience I’ll never forget and be forever grateful for was my chance to go to England with about 60 other guard members. We were there for 2 weeks and I trained with the Active Duty members at RAF Mildenhall. This trip deserves a post of its own as I got to experience a little bit of the European culture and see some amazing places, including London. I can’t wait to go back. I even got to fly over in a C-130 and hang out with the pilots on the way home!

My favorite part was the bathroom aka bucket with a curtain. The top right picture was my view while peeing. The plane was so loud you had to wear ear plugs. For 10 hours. I wish I had pictures of our seats. It was quite an adventure, to say the least, but I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

I may end up re-enlisting, but if I do, it will be closer to home. I am even considering getting back in as an Officer. For now, we are just going to see where life takes us. All I know is that whatever’s meant to be, will be. This sunrise on our way home this weekend said to me that beautiful things are ahead. I can’t wait to see what’s next!

The most exciting thing? Having 12 more weekends in the year to fill full of adventure! I also want to say a special thanks to everyone in every branch of the military. It takes a special kind of person to sign up and sacrifice their life for the rest of the country and I couldn’t be more proud to be an American. Our troops rock!
Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10181852731114109521noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5997605947137089868.post-30829950729116706122012-10-31T22:56:00.000-06:002012-10-31T22:56:07.438-06:00Happy Halloweenie!I know, I know. By the time you are reading this, it’s already November. Better late than never, though, right?! Right. I hope you all had nights full of tricks, but mostly treats. I just wanted to quickly share with you some Ghosts of Halloween’s Past. They are all pretty recent. Unfortunately, I don’t have any adorable pictures of my young self at my disposal so you get old Jess. You can thank me later.
Well, I guess I have one (thanks to The Facebook). One year I dressed up as a basketball player. 26 points if you can figure out which cutie is me…

This one time, I dressed as a biker chick. Tell me I’m not the only one that wears heeled ankle booties on 200+ miles of motorcycle riding… *2010*
One year I got crazy and dressed as a professional boogie boarder. I think I pulled off the look quite well. I also can’t believe I’m posting a photo of myself in a wet suit on the interwebs. *2010*
Okay, so here’s a legit Halloween costume. We went to Boulder to visit my Aunt and I ended up being a Geisha. Ignore me trying to squint my eyes. I’m a horrible person. *2010*
The funniest thing about my costume was that my Aunt had every part of this costume. And Travis’. If anyone ever wants to dress up as a RockStar or a Geisha, my Aunt can hook you up. *2010*
Ahhh, this is one of my favorite costumes. Before Travis whisked me away on his white horse, I lived with Sara, my BFF. We were obsessed with the short-lived show ‘Kath and Kim’. So, here we are as them. Seriously, one of the funniest shows. Ever. *2009* Oh, and this was the night Travis asked me for my number. He was part of the band we went to watch…if you’re wondering what to wear to impress a cute guy, zebra leggings, pointy gold shoes and a wig will do it. Just sayin’.
The same year as Kath and Kim, I dressed up as a ‘Demon Red-Riding Hood’. I needed a costume to wear to work and Hip-Hop. Guess what? First place in hip-hop, baby. You bet your sweet bottom I grooved to Thriller in this get-up. *2009*This one time, we found ourselves looking like John Smith and Sacajawea. *2010*
Ooo, one of my favorites. A skydiver! And I really jumped out of a plane! I had to make it extra convincing… *2010*

Oh, and this one time I dressed as a Bride. I’m not sure how I got that handsome guy to dress up as my groom, though. I think we were pretty convincing… *2011*
I also let that same guy decide our next costume. Raggedy Ann and Andy. Let’s just say I won’t be letting him make such big decisions ever again. *2011* Although, old drunk ladies liked us. Obviously.
So there you have it! A silly little recap of some past costumes, some of which may or may not have been for the actual holiday of Halloween. I guess I just like to dress up!Jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10181852731114109521noreply@blogger.com1
