ding-dong...

..."Travis! Wake up! The doorbell rang!" As I elbowed Travis in the chest to no avail, he began sleep talking. Well shoot, I thought to myself. There ain't no way I'm getting up to answer it! It's 1:30 in the morning. #perksofbeingmarried

So I lay there quietly, until a few minutes later, ding-dong! Travis finally heard it and got out of bed. He took the longest amount of time to throw some pants on and finally made it to the front door. What do you know, whoever it was had been gone by then. Seriously, how long does it take to throw sweats on?! He noticed it was someone on a motorcycle that took off right when he got to the door. So he waited to see if they came back down the hill. Our neighborhood only has one way in, one way out, and we are at the beginning of it. Well, it never came back down. To add to Trav's confusion, it was his birthday the night before, so he'd had a few birthday drinks. So, after waiting and no one coming back down, he came back to bed.

Of course we just lay there because I couldn't fall back asleep. Who could it be? This is weird. About 5 minutes later, ding-dong. Wow! Travis was still awake. And he had clothes on! So he makes it to the door. I lay there waiting for a gun shot or loud scream. #bestwifeever I hear another man's voice and Travis goes to the mudroom to put shoes on and goes outside. Uhhhh. I hop out of bed, go potty, throw my robe on, and quietly leave the bedroom. I then tiptoe around to the front door and peek out the window. I see lights from a car but can't see what car. So, I walk around to the guest room to creepily peek out of that window.

Two cop cars?! What is going on? In our nice, quiet, new neighborhood? At our house?

Then I hear Travis opening the garage. So I creep back to the mudroom and try to hear through the door. And no, I couldn't just go outside and find out what's going on. Where's the fun in that!? So I hear talking but I have no idea what they are saying. So I go back to the guest room and see one of the police-persons taking a photo of Trav's truck. Hmm. Are we in trouble? No comprende.

After what seems like a long time, Travis finally comes back in. "Someone broke into my truck!" Well, technically they just opened it because someone likes to leave doors unlocked. Apparently the mysterious motorcycle man was our neighbor who was on his way home from work and noticed the truck doors wide open. After we didn't answer the door, he went home and found his vehicle broken into as well and called the cops. All they took from the truck was a $2.00 bill and a new unopened package of speakers worth about $100 but thankfully nothing was broken, they didn't try to enter the house (the side garage door was open! *shudder*) and the speakers are easily replaceable. Turns out this is the second time this has happened to the neighbors.

Things like this make me wonder: Is the person that did this desperate for money, bored, or just likes to hurt/scare other people? Why are there people who take away from others for their own personal gain? I will just never understand.

Basically the point of this story was to remember that our neighbor's sombrero got stolen and to tell you guys *cough:Travis:cough* to lock your stuff up.  People suck. Oh, and Travis sells fancy camera thingies and yes, he is going to be installing one.

thirty-one

 **warning: mushball ahead**

Nope, this isn't a sale pitch for those cute organizing totes or a confession of how many cookies I ate this weekend. This is a birthday wish to my favorite dork person, the love of my life, my best friend and my forever adventure pal.

Wow. If that doesn't make you weak in the knees, I don't know what will.

Trav is many a few years older than me (only 5, people) and I like to give him a hard time about it too often. Mostly because he complains about getting older, to which I tell him...

Age is just a number and I believe everyone should be thankful for each birthday they get to celebrate. That means they had one more year to live, to have adventures, to love. I am so thankful that Travis came into my life. Sure, he isn't perfect (who is), but he sure is perfect for me. He's the best dog dad any fur-ball could ask for, and someday, he will melt my heart even more when we have kids of our own. I could go on and on about the things I love about him (and the things that drive me nuts), but I really just want to say Happy Birthday to the man that completes me and makes my life more than I could have ever hoped for. I love you, sexy pants.

Park City, UT {1st Anniversary Getaway}

For our first Anniversary trip, we wanted to have a little getaway, but not too far from home. Somewhere we’d never been, somewhere with mountains, and somewhere cheap(ish). Park City, being only 2.5 hours away, gorgeous, and in its off-season, was perfect. We rented a little condo for two nights and had a blast. A concert in Salt Lake, delicious meals, and a big kid’s dream, it was a perfect weekend. How about I show you in photos again…

…Except, the only time I had my camera out was on Sunday. Oops. I’ll just say the concert was fun. I made up my own song…

“Holy moly, teeny bopper, overload. Holy moly, we are, so, old.” Repeat.

Even though we were older than 3/4 of the crowd, it was a blast. Imagine Dragons is my new favorite band. Seriously, there were so awesome live. The rest of the line up included The Wombats, Group Love, The Used and Neon Trees. And there was beer. Beer + Live Music = Happy Prathers.

If you go to Park City, eat at The Eating Establishment. Mimosas and AMAZING eggs benedict. It doesn’t get much better than that. Okay. Sunday. Park City has what’s called the Alpine Coaster and Alpine Slide. It’s every little (and big) kids dream. I’ve always wanted to go for a ride (that’s what she said) on these babies. I figured they’d be silly, but holy moly, they were so. much. fun. Even Travis said he’d ride them again. Do it. Seriously. Oh, and I highly recommend Park City in the early fall. The leaves were changing but it was still 60 degrees, and the crowds are smaller. Perfection.

You control the speed on your sled thingies, and let me tell you, those things haul butt. One girl said she has seen someone go over the edge they were going so fast. So. Freaking. Fun. Technically we weren’t supposed to race, but Trav won. He had a head start though. Cheater.

Travis and I rode the coaster together. The kid said you go faster with two people, so really, we had to. You ride the coaster slowly up, and then haul down. You control the speed in this, too. I wanted to ride it again and again and again. Don’t even think about saying that’s what she said.

We stopped at the Tanger Outlets on our way out of town, which is in Park City, and left with nothing. Can you believe that?! If only I wasn’t such a cheap-skate. It’s worth a stop though. So. Many. Stores. And then we came home. But we like our house so it was okay. Plus, Riley missed us. I can’t wait to go back to Park City when the snow falls. It really is a beautiful, fun town. Now to go win the lottery so I can retire and buy a home there…

The Adventure Continues…

A few weeks ago, we celebrated our first anniversary. Yes, I’m a bad blogger, but hey, late than never, right? Right.

Besides, I don’t want to forget the fact that both Travis and I planned a little scavenger hunt for each other. Yep. Meant to be. So, enjoy bits and pieces of our hunt in photos. We sure did. #littlekidsinbigkidsbodies

We spoiled each other with little gifts and our main gift to each other was a trip to Park City, Utah. Maybe I’ll share that soon. We’ll see. This whole life thing gets in the way of blogging. I’m not sure how you all do it! I’ve also been up to DIY projects, a house-warming party, and preparing for the Tough Mudder this coming Sunday. Watch this video and then tell me I’m crazy. No wait, don’t! I already know. Yes, those wires are live, and no, I might not be come Sunday afternoon.

A Sad Anniversary Story & Our 1 Year Photo

Okay, that is probably a little dramatic, but just hear me out. We had very excitedly planned on going to dinner to our favorite place in town, The Grecian Key, for our first Anniversary. They catered our wedding and they have the best Greek food I’ve ever had…and I’ve been to Greece before. Seriously. Amazing. Anyways, we already planned what we were getting…delicious dolmathes, terrific tiropitakia, a glorious Greek salad, perfect pita bread, crazy good chicken souvlaki, great Greek pasta and very delicious veggies (this might explain why we’re fat kids).
So, after our fun gift-giving adventure (I’ll get to that tomorrow), we hopped in the car and headed downtown. I told Travis to park out front, which we usually don’t do. I smiled ear to ear before opening the door and suddenly was stopped in my tracks. “Travis, we can’t go!” I’ll let these few pictures explain the rest.
Oh, the blasphemy. Holy disappointment, Batman! We sat there in shock for a good 10 minutes. We couldn’t believe it…of all the days, they had to choose that one! I know, I know, lots of worse things have happened and we still had a good dinner and I got to spend the evening with my favorite person ever, but sometimes your hopes just get so high, and then to be crushed like that, well, needless to say I had an extra glass of wine. If you look really close, you can see our Thank You card hanging inside. Oh, the irony.

Now that I got the sad part of the story out of the way, how about some happiness! I've seen this picture idea on both on Pinterest and Katie's blog. Using a bar stool as a tripod wasn't ideal but hey, it got the job done!

I'll be back tomorrow with snippets of our fun little scavenger hunt!

One Year: Happy Anniversary!

While I usually despise Mondays, I'm pretty excited about this one. Today marks my first wedding anniversary with the love of my life! This year has been a whirlwind of adventure and one that I will never forget. I'm not going to lie, marriage is interesting. Not only is it full of love, compromise, happiness, adventure and trust, but it can be hard sometimes. Hard to admit you're wrong, hard to make sacrifices, and hard to leave one another's side. But to give yourself totally to one person for the rest of your life is so totally worth it, especially when they are your one true love. I never thought I'd find the one that made me want to give my whole self to one person for the rest of my life, but when I met Travis, I knew it was him.

I'm not going to get too mushy, but I can't wait for the next 100 years and all the adventures that will come along. I'm lucky to have such a wonderful person put up with my stubbornness and nonsense! It was pretty perfect that when I got in my car to leave for work this morning, "Ho Hey" by The Lumineers was playing. Listen to it if you've never heard it. The chorus of "I belong with you, you belong with me" is perfect for a day like today.

Travis, thank you for being an amazing husband, friend and adventure pal. I can't imagine life without you! You're the best thing I could ever hope for! Muah muah muah!

When the husband's away...

So the husband had to hit the road this week for work. He has to travel every so often, and while I miss him bunches, it is still kinda nice to have Jess time and do random things I normally don't do when he's around. I was doing something the other night and thought to myself, "there's no way I'd get away with this if Travy was home!" Now you might be thinking I had a bunch of people over for a party or went out and had too much fun. You'd be wrong. Very wrong. If only I were that cool...

Things I do when the husband is gone:

* Eat cereal for dinner, alongside a half PBJ. I love to cook and feel like a good wife when I do, but it is so hard to cook for one! It's nice to have a break though. I did make it somewhat nutritious by adding blueberries, yogurt, and chia seeds. And wine. Always wine.

* Get out of bed on time. I never do this, especially when hubs is home. Get your mind out of the gutter. It's just so much more cozy with a warm body next to you, which makes it harder to get out of that cozy bed! I only pressed snooze once or twice as compared to the seven or eight times!

uh, yup.

* Pee with the door open. Okay, okay. You caught me. I'm guilty of this whether he's home or not. I guess doing it without him here made me realize I probably should close it when he IS home. I'm such a lady.

* Watch "The Hills" on Netflix while working out. I loved this show. Has anyone watched it recently? Wow, how things have changed. It is crazy to me that that was 6 years ago! Lauren's fashion sense has definitely evolved since Season 1. Hello jean skirts! And the drama. Oh, the drama.

via

* Dance around like a fool to the Lil' Wayne channel on Pandora. Okay, I do this when he's home, too, but he despises rap/hip-hop so it's usually short-lived. I made up for lost time for sure. I think the dog is as into it as the husband. Oh well.

* Make an impulse stop at TJMaxx. I came home with shoes, a shirt, workout shorts, goodies for the guest bathroom, random falafel chips and a wallet. There's no way I would have been able to sneak that stuff inside if he was home! I can't go to that store very often.

Wow. I am super exciting. What do you do when you're home alone? Hopefully cooler stuff than me! ;)
